Good morning, good God!
I know you read my heart, Lord,
so you know it’s filled with joy this week,
with memories and stories,
images and anecdotes, all gracious souvenirs
of 50 years of working
in the vineyard of your church;
tending, pruning, harvesting
the branches on your vine
and drinking from the cup of life
your very finest vintage,
the one you pour for all who thirst
for mercy, grace and peace…
I’ve more gifts than I need, Lord,
more joy than I can hold
more peace than I deserve
so I offer you this morning
the bounty of my blessings,
a surplus of your kindnesses,
to share with those who look this week
for peace to soothe their souls,
for joy to lift their spirits
and for you to fill their hearts…
Because you read our hearts
and you know just who needs what,
I’ll ask one more blessing, Lord,
I’ll pray for one more gift:
be as generous with everyone
as you have been with me…
