I’ve posted this several times over the years and I’m posting it again since it happens that a number of the situations described in this prayer are playing out right now in the lives of other folks I know who have asked for my prayers… Who has asked for your prayers? For whom are you praying tonight? Take a moment recall by name those you want to lift up in prayer tonight…
I have so many people to pray for, Lord,
and though I know you know them each by name
and you know the burdens each one bears,
I’ll rest with greater ease
if I lift them up in prayer…
For one who’s heart is broken
as his family breaks apart:
be with him, Lord,
and help him through his tears and trials,
day by day by day…
For one who lives with pain, Lord,
and suffers sleepless nights:
be with her, Lord, and heal her
in body, mind and soul…
For one who’s grieving deeply,
who’s lost his life-long love:
be with him, Lord, and warm his heart
as she did his, five decades plus…
For one who’s tired, all burned out,
whose patience grows so thin:
be with him, Lord, as time goes by
and be his strength and hope…
For one whose faith is shaky
and who struggles to believe:
be with her, Lord, and show yourself
and who struggles to believe:
be with her, Lord, and show yourself
her faithful, loving friend
For one who prays and worries
for the health of one she loves:
be with her, Lord, and help her trust
your love and care for all…
For one oppressed by prejudice,
put down, shut out and scorned:
be with him, Lord, and change our hearts
’til all are one in you…
For one who lives in prison,
through long days and longer nights:
be with him, Lord, and free his heart
’til he again walks free…
For one who keeps her distance,
in fear of many things:
be with her, Lord, and help her trust
in you, herself and us…
For one who bears a burden, Lord,
known but to a few:
be with him, ease his mind
and give him strength to carry on…
And for these folks in my life, Lord,
for whom I pray tonight:

For all who’ve asked for my prayers, Lord,
for many different reasons:
be with them and in your good time,
for many different reasons:

refresh, restore and heal them…
Protect us, Lord while we’re awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace…
If you need A steady hand to guide you
If it seems You’ve somehow lost your way
If you feel There’s no one you can turn to
Just look to God And pray
On your knees Or standing at a crossroads
Late at night Or in the light of day
In a crowd a closet, or a chapel
Just look to God And pray
He is there when you’re searching
for the answers.
He is there when you need a little grace.
Any time, anywhere you have a chance
to
Seek the One who knows the way,
Just pray.
Seek the One who knows the way,

When His love continues to amaze you
When you feel your heart begin to change
When you know He gave his Son to save you,
Just look to God and pray.
He is there when you’re searching
for the answers.
He is there when you need a little grace.

Bring your doubts, your worries and your faith
Share your hopes and dreams. He is listening.
There’s no time or distance in the way
The moment you begin, it’s just you and Him.
He is there when you’re searching

You’re His child and His love will never fail you
He is with you. He will hear you. He will stay.
Just pray.
