NIGHT PRAYER: Sunday 5/18

NIGHT PRAYER: Sunday 5/18

I’m away on retreat for eight days at Eastern Point Retreat House in Gloucester, MA. While I’m here, posting on my blog will be occasional – as the Spirit leads me!
Well, the Spirit has been leading me to look at my prayer life – and that has been very fruitful. So, in my prayer I’ve been – praying about my prayer!  I’ve gathered up my notes from the past two days and sorted them out as you’ll see below.
Now, when I speak of prayer here, I mean setting apart time, in a quiet place, to be alone with the Jesus… Time to open my heart and share with the Lord my joys and sorrows, my faith and my fears, my hurt and my hope.
I don’t experience all that I write about below every time I pray – and some of these experiences come much more frequently than others.  But I hope my sharing here might encourage you to pray, to pray more often and to broaden and deepen your appreciation for what prayer might bring you…

In my prayer,
Lord,

   I’m always in your arms…

In my prayer,

   you hold me close…

In my prayer,

my heart beats one with yours…

In my prayer,

you call me by my name…

In my prayer,

   I find myself at peace…

In my prayer, Lord,

   you are my world…

In my prayer,

   I find my home…

In my prayer,

   I’m not afraid…

In my prayer,

   the mask comes off…

In my prayer,

   I lose myself in you…

In my prayer,

   I find myself in you…

In my prayer,

   my cares and worries melt…

In my prayer,

   I know that I’m loved…

In my prayer,

   I know that I am yours…

In my prayer,

   I find a place of refuge…

In my prayer, Lord,

   you are my strong shelter…

In my prayer,

I bathe in your sweet mercy…

In my prayer,

   you patiently await me…

In my prayer,

I know you pardon all my sins…

In my prayer,

   my wounds are gently healed…

In my prayer,

your gift of grace sustains me…

In my prayer,

I am unburdened and set free…

In my prayer,

   I find my hope…

In my prayer,

   I ponder your wisdom…

In my prayer,

   you touch my soul…

In my prayer,

   you mend my broken heart…

In my prayer,

   you make me whole…

In my prayer,

   your Spirit fills me…

In my prayer,

   I am refreshed…

In my prayer,

   I find a new beginning…

In my prayer,

you’re right there by my side…

In my prayer,

   my soul speaks wordlessly,

In my prayer,

   your silence sings to me…

In my prayer,

   you hear my every cry…

In my prayer,

   your whisper softly echoes…

In my prayer,

   my restless heart grows calm…

In my prayer,

I see the light of truth…

In my prayer,

I find the way to go…

In my prayer,

   I come to understand…

In my prayer,

my life at last makes sense…

In my prayer,

   I face what I avoid…

In my prayer,

   there simply are no secrets…

In prayer,

you know me as I am…

In my prayer,

you love me as I am…

In my prayer,

where I cannot hide my face,

let your holy face, Lord,

    shine with grace on mine…

Protect me,
Lord while I’m awake

and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might
keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace…

Amen.

Lord, Let Your Face Shine Upon Us
Lord, let your face shine upon us,
let your face shine upon us,
let your face shine upon us.
Listen to my song
hear me when I call, O Lord, my God,
be gracious, hear my prayer.
You have called my name,
set your seal upon my heart,
you hear me when I call.
Fill me with your joy,
grant to me your peaceful rest

to dwell in safety with my Lord.
