I wonder how many times,
today,
I lost myself in foolishness
and missed you at my side…
today,
I lost myself in foolishness
and missed you at my side…
I wonder how many times, today,
I didn’t hear that word you spoke
just for me to hear…
I didn’t hear that word you spoke
just for me to hear…
I wonder how many times, today,
I didn’t feel your hand reach out
to take my hand in yours…
How many times today, Lord,
did I cheat and take a short cut
– and leave your path of grace?
How many times, today, Lord,
did I miss your quiet presence
when I felt all alone?
How many times today, Lord
did I tell a lie
did I tell a lie
when the truth was in my heart?
How many times today
did I cater to myself
before serving others’ needs?
before serving others’ needs?
How many times today, Lord,
was I too hurried
to speak to you in prayer?
to speak to you in prayer?
How many times today
did I miss the simple signs
of your presence all around me…
How many times, Lord?
How many times, today,
did I miss the best
of all that might have been
because I was
too busy,
too proud,
too critical,
too self-satisfied,
too preoccupied,
too resentful,
too self-indulgent,
too angry,
too selfish,
or even just too lazy
to sense the spirit,
to see the beauty,
to hear the song,
to touch the softness,
to taste the sweetness,
to inhale the aroma,
to discern the grace
of your presence in my life?
How many times, Lord?
Well, too many times
is my best guess!
And so I pray, Lord,
that when tomorrow comes
I’ll see you, hear you,
take your hand,
follow you and find you
and serve you out of love for you
in caring for my neighbor…
in caring for my neighbor…
So, help me, Lord, tonight,
to slow my step,
to take a breath,
to look around and close my eyes,
to settle down and pause in prayer
and find you
in the silence of my heart,
in my mind and in my thoughts,
in my hopes and in my dreams,
in my soul and by my side
and wherever you may lead me
by your mercy and your grace…
Protect me, Lord, while I’m awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace…
So many times, the Lord made a way for meSo many times, the Lord made a way for me
He picked me up,
oh yes, He didAnd turned me aroundHe placed my feet on solid ground
So many times, the Lord made a way for meSo many times, the Lord made a way for me
When I was sick (oh, yeah, Jesus)And thought I wouldn’t get wellYou healed this old body, my LordAnd now I can tell
So many times, the Lord made a way for meSo many times, the Lord made a way for me
Now sometimes I was up, oh yes I wasAnd sometimes I was downLord, seemed like I was never,
never to, to the ground
So many times, the Lord made a way for meSo many times, the Lord made a way for me
Now when I was lost, lost, lost JesusAnd couldn’t find my wayYou stepped right in
and showed me the way
Lord, I thank youI want to thank you for holding meYou’ve been so good,
so good to, to me
