NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 2/28

You are, Lord, the master of the Divine Nudge!

You have an infinite number of ways
    to poke, push and prod me;
    to tug on my sleeve,
    tap me on the shoulder
and turn my attention in your direction…
And sometimes your regular Divine Nudge
needs a little more oomph behind it
and that’s when you
    toss me out of bed
or roll me off the couch
    or upend my recliner!
In these past few days, Lord,
    I’ve been sensing and feeling
a touch of your Divine Nudge
    – but I’m not altogether sure where,
in what direction, you may be drawing me…
Is your hand on my shoulder,
pulling me to a time and place
when I might draw closer in prayer
            – more often?
Are you shaking me to get off my butt
and offer my ear, my heart,
my help, my time to someone in need?
Are you handing me a blessing
    I’m slow to accept?
Is that song in my heart
    the voice of your love?
Are you offering your healing
for pain I hold on to?
Is that tug on my shoulder
    your touch on my heart?
Are you taking my hand
   to lead me to peace?
Is that vague déjà vu
    a memory of grace?
Are you shaking me up
    to restore my faith?
Is that lift of fresh fervor
    you rousing my hope?
Are you tweaking my conscience
    to stir my repentance?
Is that whisper I hear
    your Spirit’s soft breath?
Whenever you nudge me,
    poke, push or prod me,
open me, Lord,
    to your whisper and touch
and move me closer, inch by inch,
to you, to your grace and your Spirit,
to your hand, your heart and your love,
to where you call me, lead and draw me,
to where you and I are one…

Protect me, Lord, while I’m awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace…

Whisper your love for me, O Lord
Whisper your love for me
In my heart of hearts I long to know your love
Whisper your love for me, O Lord
As I whisper my love for you

Not in thunder, lightning or raging storm
not in quakes or blasts of the wind
but in the gentle sounds of a quiet breeze
you first whispered your love for me, O Lord,
you whispered your love for me

I whisper your name in prayer, O Lord,
Whisper your name in prayer
In the silence of my thoughts I listen for your voice
In silence I come to you, O Lord,
In silence you come to me.
Whisper your peace to me, O Lord
Whisper your peace to me
You alone can bring true peace to my life
Grant unto me your peace, O Lord,
Grant unto me your peace
