I’ll be going on retreat soon (3/15)
so I’m thinking about that week, Lord,
and what you might be planning for me,
what you might have in store for me,
how your love might change me
over those 8 days of prayer…
But even as I ask the question, Lord,
I realize it’s something I can and should ask
every day of my life!
I might ask you tonight – or any night:
What’s up for tomorrow, Lord?
Where will you lead me, guide me, take me?
What word(s) will you whisper in my heart?
What particular grace will tomorrow bring?
What tasks have you put on my To-Do list?
Whom will you invite me to meet tomorrow?
How will you comfort me? confront me?
challenge me? console me?
Between the time I wake in the morning
and fall asleep tomorrow night,
how will you offer me your wisdom and your mercy,
your strength and your compassion,
your patience and your peace?
And how will you surprise me tomorrow, Lord:
how might tomorrow be different
than any other day I’ve lived so far?
I might always ask those questions, Lord,
since not a day goes by
when you’re not present in my life
from the time I first wake up
until I fall asleep – and even in my dreams…
You’re with me, all around me, Lord,
moving in my mind and heart,
touching, blessing, healing
all I do and all I am…
So, what’s up for tomorrow, Lord?
Whatever it may be:
make me ready for the day ahead,
a day that you have made,
a day you choose to spend with me,
a day I hope I choose to spend with you…
Protect me, Lord, while I’m awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace…
