OK, Lord…
I don’t doubt that you have a plan
– you probably have lots of plans…
And I don’t doubt you have a plan for me
– even if you’re disinclined to share it…
I don’t even doubt you want the best for me
– I trust you’d never wish me ill…
I know you never promised me a rose garden
– not even a rose without thorns…
And I know there’s lots of times (too many)
– when I’m a thorn in my own side
I know that every life has pain and suffering
– no one gets a pass on that…
And I know that you’re right by my side
– in the good and (especially) in the bad…
But still, Lord…
I’d love for you to give me just a hint, a peek
at what your plans might be
or, barring that, the grace to find
the gifts you have in store…
And if you send me roses, Lord,
then give me help to find
the thorns among the blooms,
the pain that hides in joy…
When my journey leads to suffering, Lord,
sustain me with your strength
’til I find the hope and future
your love has planned for me…
Protect me, Lord, while I’m awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace…
If I’m honest, this is how I feel
You know the secrets I wish you’d reveal
You see the beginning from the end
Oh, but sometimes in the middle
Life doesn’t make much sense, but
You have plans for me,
