I‘m not sure why this is, Lord,
but it’s at the end of each day that I’m most aware
of choices I might consider,
decisions I need to make
and forks in the road waiting to see
which way I’ll turn, which path I’ll take…
Decisions and choices are ever before me:
some are small, piddling, of no consequence
but others are huge, important and real
filled with life-changing potential…
Help me tend to the big stuff,
the things that matter,
choices I’ll make that will make a difference
not only in my life but in others’ as well…
Give me knowledge and shrewdness,
understanding and vision,
counsel and insight,
clear perception and keen intuition…
But more than all this, Lord, give me wisdom:
a share in the wisdom only you possess,
a share in the Spirit’s timeless wisdom,
a gift for all ages, a boon for all peoples,
a blessing for me when I have to decide
which way to turn, which path to take,
what choices will lead me to you…
Protect me, Lord, as I lie awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace.
