Lord, I’m just not sure how to handle the current political scene
or what to speak in this climate of accusation and judgment:
quick tempers exploding at a moment’s notice
in harsh and hateful words
breeding discord and division

between families, friends and neighbors…
It’s near impossible to get to the truth of things
with so many so resistant
to anything beyond
what they’ve already long believed…
Stubborn bias, lies and prejudice,
too often simple ignorance,
reign on both, on every side
while slogans pose as substance
in debating complex issues…
The questions, never easy,
don’t admit of easy answers
and no amount of shouting
will resolve the mess we’re in…
We need wisdom, Lord,
to see beyond what clouds and blinds our vision…
We need understanding deeper
than what masquerades as insight…
We need counsel born of truth,
not of preconceived assumptions…
We need courage, first to seek the truth
and then to speak it clearly…
We need knowledge of your will, Lord,
that we do what you would do…
We need greater, deeper reverence
for the justice love demands…
We need civil tongues in cooler heads
to speak with common sense…
We need awe before your myst’ry
as we seek to love and serve you…
We need the grace and gifts, Lord,
that your Spirit has in store for us
to help us do what’s right
what’s just and fair and true…
