It’s become a cliche but there’s truth in it: Jesus IS the reason for the season – and that reason is easily eclipsed by the material and commercial influences in our lives…
This morning’s prayer, then, is intended to remind us what we as Christians are all about at this time of the year…
Lord, I’m as likely as anyone
to forget the meaning of this holy season
calling me to deeper prayer
and to ready myself and my household
to celebrate your coming among us…
Even more, Lord, do you call me in these days
to prepare a place in my heart for you,
to discern between things that matter
and things that don’t,
to open my heart to you, still making your home
with the homeless, the poor,
and to ready my life
for the day when you’ll come again
to call me to be with you forever…
Help me remember, Lord,
and don’t let me forget,
that you’re the reason for this season…
